What Is A Solo
Day Retreat?

A Solo Retreat at The Anya House is a ONE DAY RETREAT—7 AM to 9 PM—created just for you. There is no overnight stay, no lengthy travel, and no heavy planning.

This solo day retreat is a one-day, private getaway for Christian women of faith to rest, reflect, and reconnect—without the hassle of travel or overnight commitments.

Available from 7 AM – 9 PM, our retreat is intentionally created to make healing accessible and realistic. Drop the kids off, take the day off from work, or finally do something that’s just for you.

It’s an intentional pause that fits into daily life: drop off the kids, step away from responsibilities, take the day off from work, or finally do something that’s just for you, and immerse yourself in a faith‑centered sanctuary of self‑care, wellness, and spiritual renewal.

This is your solo space to process thoughts, relieve stress, relax, have fun, watch TV in the common room, work on goals, enjoy your own company, and grow closer to God.

Why a Solo Retreat Matters — and How Often to Go

In the rush of roles and responsibilities, it’s all too easy to lose sight of who you are and what truly sustains you. A Solo Day Retreat at The Anya House is more than a “day off”—it’s a spiritual reset that:

  • Clarifies Your Calling: Creates the mental space to discern next steps in your faith, family, and work.

  • Deepens Your Faith: Unhurried time for prayer, worship, and Scripture opens your heart to fresh insight.

How Often Should You Go?

  • Monthly Mini‑Retreats: Even a half‑day “recharge” once a month sustains clarity, creativity, and spiritual momentum.

  • Special‑Need Retreats: Schedule as needed—before big life changes, after difficult seasons, or anytime you sense your soul crying out for refreshment.

Adults ages 18–34 consistently report the highest stress, particularly around health and financial worries SingleCare. A recent survey found Gen Z and millennial women feel stressed 6 hours per day on average New York Post.

Common Causes of Stress

  • Top stressors include insufficient wages and housing costs, followed by isolation, healthcare expenses, transportation challenges, and experiences of discrimination National Women’s Law Center.

  • Burnout Symptoms
Chronic overload leads to emotional exhaustion, irritability, detachment, reduced performance, and physical symptoms such as headaches, insomnia, and high blood pressure.

  • Overcompensating
When supportive relationships are scarce, many women feel compelled to carry every burden themselves—making true rest feel like an unattainable luxury.
  • Health Consequences
Prolonged stress is linked to weakened immunity, greater risk of obesity and diabetes, and elevated risk of heart disease—underscoring the need for restorative practices like our solo retreats.

  • Unworthy of Rest
Guilt and shame often whisper that rest is selfish or unearned, leading many women to push themselves past healthy limits. When you don’t believe you deserve a pause, you miss the vital renewal your body and soul crave—because rest isn’t a reward, it’s a rightful part of the life God intends for you.

God Desires (and requires ) You to Rest

“Be still and know that I am God.”
— Psalm 46:10

ENDING THE PANDEMIC ON REST

The Weight You’re Carrying Isn’t Just in Your Mind

The High Cost of Stress and Lack of Proper Rest

Chronic stress and inadequate rest take a heavy toll on both body and mind: elevated cortisol levels impair immune function, making you more susceptible to infections and slower to heal; disrupted sleep contributes to weight gain, high blood pressure, and increased risk of heart disease and diabetes; constant fatigue undermines cognitive performance—memory, focus, and decision‑making suffer—and can lead to anxiety, depression, and emotional burnout. Over time, this pressure cooker of physiological and psychological strain erodes your overall well‑being, leaving you less resilient, less joyful, and farther from the health and wholeness God intends for your life.

For many women, the journey toward self‑care is further complicated by unaddressed traumas—emotional wounds from loss, betrayal, or hardship that cling to the soul. The daily demands of caregiving, career pressures, and the expectation to “hold it all together” leave little room for healing. Moving you further away from the woman you once were. When past hurts remain unresolved, it becomes almost impossible to carve out moments of rest, prioritize personal renewal, or fully embrace the restorative power of a day set aside for you. Recognizing these layers of struggle is the first step toward breaking the cycle and stepping into true, lasting restoration.

Chronic, unrelieved stress can manifest in numerous physical ailments when self‑care is neglected. Some of the most common issues include:

  • Headaches & Migraines
Tension in the neck, shoulders, and jaw often triggers frequent tension‑type headaches or even debilitating migraines.

  • Cardiovascular Strain
Elevated cortisol and adrenaline raise blood pressure and heart rate, increasing long‑term risk for hypertension, heart disease, and stroke.

  • Gastrointestinal Distress
Stress alters gut motility and acid production, leading to symptoms like acid reflux, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), cramping, and diarrhea or constipation.

  • Immune Suppression
Chronic cortisol release impairs immune cell function—resulting in more frequent colds, slower wound‑healing, and increased susceptibility to infections.

  • Sleep Disruption
Racing thoughts and hormonal imbalances make falling—or staying—asleep—difficult, contributing to insomnia, daytime fatigue, and impaired cognitive performance.

  • Musculoskeletal Tension & Pain
Constant “fight‑or‑flight” tension in muscles can lead to back pain, neck stiffness, and joint discomfort.

  • Metabolic & Weight Changes
Stress‑related hormonal shifts can increase appetite (especially for “comfort” foods), promote abdominal fat storage, and raise risk for obesity and Type 2 diabetes.

  • Skin & Hair Issues
Flare‑ups of eczema, psoriasis, adult acne, and accelerated hair‑loss can all be linked to persistent stress.

  • Hormonal Imbalance
Disrupted cortisol rhythms can interfere with reproductive hormones, leading to irregular cycles, worsened PMS, or menopausal symptom flare‑ups.

By recognizing these potential warning signs, you can see how crucial it is to build in intentional rest, self‑care, and stress‑relief practices—like those offered in a Solo Day Retreat at The Anya House—to protect both your physical health and your spiritual well‑being.

Our Mission at The Anya House is a call to action for better health by creating a space of healing for women to rest.

  •  Studies show Black women experience higher levels of “superwoman schema,” feeling they must appear strong, suppress emotions, and succeed despite limited resources.

  • Chronic stress can lead to headaches, insomnia, digestive issues, anxiety, depression, and heart disease—often undiagnosed or untreated.
  • Burnout symptoms include emotional fatigue, irritability, lack of motivation, forgetfulness, and feeling disconnected from purpose and joy.
  • Less than 1 in 5 women of color feel they have a safe space to simply rest without expectation.

Marriage
Being A Mom

For Married Women

  • Eroded Intimacy & Communication
Chronic stress can lead to irritability, emotional withdrawal, and fatigue, making it harder to connect with a spouse. Over time, this creates distance and misunderstandings that strain the marriage bond.
  • Heightened Conflict & Resentment
When worries pile up—financial pressures, work demands, unprocessed emotions—small disagreements can escalate quickly. Unchecked stress often fuels resentment, reducing patience and compassion toward one another.

For Moms

  • Parental Burnout & Guilt
The relentless demands of caregiving can leave mothers feeling constantly “on” and emotionally depleted. This burnout often brings guilt—feeling both too tired to engage fully with children and too overwhelmed to seek personal respite.

  • Reduced Patience & Presence
High stress levels and sleep deprivation compromise a mother’s ability to stay calm and attentive. Everyday tasks—bedtime routines, homework help, family meals—become sources of frustration, undermining quality time and secure parent–child connections.

“Cast all your cares [all your anxieties, all your worries, and all your concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares about you [with deepest affection, and watches over you very carefully].

1 Peter 5:7 AMP

The Importance of Sabbath Rest For Christian Women

Rest is not optional—it’s a spiritual discipline. It is a gift God gave to us to rest that has been set aside as a Sabbath – a day of religious observance and abstinence from work. Time set aside to take a mental break helps to lower stress hormones, improved immune function, better emotional balance, and deeper our spiritual connection with God.

Here’s Where You Can Find Encouragement to Rest In God’s Word:

Woman Working

Renewed Strength: “He makes me lie down in green pastures; he leads me beside still waters” (Psalm 23:2–3).

Clarity & Peace: “Truly my soul finds rest in God; my salvation comes from him” (Psalm 62:1).

Sacred Invitation: “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28).

Intentional Rest:
“Be still and know that I am God.”
— Psalm 46:10

Benefits of Solo Retreats

Recovery from the Stress of Life and Recharge
Here are a few ways to fill your time that honor your mind, body, and spirit:

Physical Restoration & Immune Support

The combination of gentle rest, soothing aromatherapy, and reduced sympathetic “fight‑or‑flight” activity lowers blood pressure, eases muscle tension, and enhances immune function. As your body moves out of chronic stress mode, you experience fewer headaches, improved digestion, and a stronger defense against illness—setting the stage for sustained wellness.

Deep, Restorative Sleep

A solo retreat breaks the cycle of constant stimulation—no screens, no packed schedules—allowing your circadian rhythms to reset. In the calm of a private pod, reduced cortisol levels and intentional downtime promote faster sleep onset, fewer nighttime awakenings, and more time spent in restorative deep and REM sleep stages.

Stress Relief Through Quiet

Stepping away from constant demands gives your nervous system permission to downshift. Without background noise or social schedules, cortisol levels drop and a deep calm settles in.

Sharpened Mental Clarity & Emotional Resilience

Uninterrupted solitude provides space for journaling, guided reflection, and prayer, which help process lingering worries and reframe negative thought patterns. This mental “decluttering” reduces anxiety and rumination, bolsters problem‑solving, and builds resilience against future stressors.

Emotional Clarity & Self‑Awareness

In the hush of your private pod, you’re free to explore thoughts and feelings without external pressure. This space of reflection invites breakthroughs in grief processing, decision‑making, and inner peace.

Spiritual Intimacy

With no distractions, your prayers and worship become more focused. You can linger over Scripture, journal your heart, and sense God’s voice more clearly than ever before.

Self‑Discovery & Rediscovery

Alone-time opens the door to rediscover your passions, strengths, and the person God created you to be. Reflect on your journey, celebrate victories, and chart a path forward that honors your truest self.

Goal‑Focused Growth

Use uninterrupted hours to work on personal goals—whether drafting a vision board, mapping a career plan, or outlining a next chapter. This dedicated attention fuels momentum you can carry home.

Creative & Cognitive Recharge

Studies show that intentional alone‑time boosts creativity, problem‑solving, and memory consolidation. Whether you’re vision‑boarding in the Inspiration Pod or journaling in the Wellness Pod, these moments spark fresh insights.

Renewed Energy for Relationships

Time alone strengthens your connections. By caring for your own well‑being, you return to family, friends, and work with more patience, presence, and compassion.

PEACE LIVES HERE

Solitude here is never empty—it’s filled with purposeful rest, meaningful resources, and the abiding presence of a God who never leaves you alone. Far from isolation, your Solo Day Retreat at The Anya House is an invitation to be held, healed, and wholeheartedly renewed.
